Lupus is a classic autoimmune disease that attacks cells, tissues and organs. It is a systemic autoimmune disease that attacks skin, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, blood vessels and nervous system. Antibody production by B cells are to DNA, SM antigen, histones and other proteins of the cell nucleus. Immune complex deposition in surfaces damage blood vessels in kidneys and other organs.
