Question By Patient: Can lupus cause pancreatitis since lupus is an autoimmune disease?

Lupus induced pancreatitis happens in a small percentage of lupus patients. Lupus vasculitis can cause pancreatitis. Other causes of pancreatitis in lupus include virus induced, perforated peptic ulcer disease, common duct stone from biliary tract, alcohol and or drug induced. Pancreatitis in lupus occurs as part of multi system disease. Pancreatitis as initial manifestation lupus is rare.
